Fellowships & Research Funding
Limited financial aid is available for full-time, regular status students. Three types of financial aid are offered: Teaching Assistantships (TA), Research Assistantships (RA), and Fellowships. Financial assistance is offered on a competitive basis. Those applicants with the very best records may be offered, in addition to assistantships, fellowships of up to $5,000 for their first year. Some special fellowships and RA’s are also available in the department through the Graduate School and other sources.
Financial aid offers for Autumn Quarter applicants are made in March. Typically, 90% of the financial aid available for new students is offered and accepted by late April. Students who wish to enter in the Winter, Spring, or Summer Quarters should note that the availability of aid for new students for these quarters is very limited.
Students are encouraged to seek outside sources of support, including fellowships from the National Science Foundation, the Department of Defense, other federal agencies and laboratories, private foundations, and foreign governments.
