Antonino Ferrante

Antonino Ferrante

Principal Investigator

UW Faculty Profile

Dr. Ferrante leads the CFM lab and enjoys working with students on problems of fluid mechanics while helping them to grow scientifically and to explore their full potential. He recently discovered a new law of aerodynamics and spends his free time summiting mountains and playing guitar while pondering more solvable mysteries of fluid dynamics.

Lingquan Li

Lingquan Li

Post-Doctoral Researcher

Lingquan Li is a postdoc in the A&A Department. She is working on the study of compressible multiphase turbulence. She got the PhD degree in aerospace engineering at North Carolina State University. Her past experiences include a novel hyperbolic method for Navier-Stokes equations, reconstructed discontinuous Garlerkin method, and underwater explosions.

Ph.D. Students

Pablo Trefftz Posada

Pablo Trefftz Posada

PhD Researcher

Pablo studies the fundamental physical mechanisms in droplet-laden turbulent flows using direct numerical simulation. To do this, he develops the group’s research code and runs large-scale simulations on supercomputers, which he then post-processes to discover physical mechanisms related to the interaction of turbulence and droplet interfaces. The physical mechanisms he discovers will play a vital role in improving models which can be used to design more efficient engines. He was selected for AIAA’s “20 Twenties” Award in 2016 and has won the Paul A. Carlstedt Endowed Fellowship (UW Aero & Astro, 2015), the Ruth C. Hertzberg Fellowship (UW Engineering, 2015) and the Theodore H. and Marie M. Sarchin Endowed Fellowship (UW Engineering, 2015). In his free time, he enjoys climbing, biking, and playing music with friends.

Mira Tipirneni

Mira Tipirneni

PhD Researcher

Mira focuses on fluids and computational methods for fluids. She is currently testing and validating a new method for simulating incompressible flows which would cut down on simulation time. She is a recipient of the Gordon C. Oates Endowed Fellowship from UW Engineering. In her free time she enjoys skiing, making music, building things, and volunteering with Seattle Makers.

M.S. Students

Nithin Adidela

Nithin Adidela

MS Researcher

Nithin focuses on fluid mechanics and is a first-year master’s student. He joined the CFM lab in Fall 2022 with the goal to learn about DNS of multiphase flows. He loves writing codes for CFD software with the aim to explain flow physics. Nithin received a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology Goa wherein he worked on simulating fluid-structure interaction using open-source tools applied to aeroelastic modelling of insect flight. He also worked as a CFD Engineer at SankhyaSutra Labs Ltd. predominantly working on enhancing the Lattice-Boltzmann flow solver to simulate moving boundaries. Nithin is recipient of the SPEEA Aerospace Career Enhancement (ACE) Fellowship for 2023-24. In his spare time he reads high-fantasy novels and enjoys watching or playing football (soccer). He is yet to fully explore his newfound love for mountain trekking in the Pacific North West.
