Remote Server Access

A&A will be using the College of Engineering Virtual Desktop Interface (COE-VDI) remote desktop system starting in the Autumn of 2020.

These new COE-VDI servers were purchased using Student Technology Fee (STF) funds allocated to both the department and the COE over the last couple of years. These new servers based on VMWare and the VMWare Horizon system.

A&A has their own VMWare Horizon "images," named "AA" and "AA – GPU," for use in instruction as well as by the RSOs and competition teams. The only difference between the images is that the one with "- GPU" appended has access to the Graphics Processing Unit. Since these "- GPU" units are "resource constrained," in that they require sharing the limited number of GPUs, it is recommended that users NOT use one unless their work requires it.


UW IT Connect provides MATLAB software for FREE student use on their personal computer(s).

HYAK – UW High Compute Cluster

HYAK is the University of Washington High Compute Cluster. A very board-based overview of the entire HYAK system on the UW WIKI for Hyak users

For student access to HYAK, the Student Technology Fee (STF) provides a number of student use nodes and manages both access and processing policies via the HYAK Research Computing Club (or RCC). A&A departmental All users in the A&A department: faculty, staff, students, researchers, etc. All A&A faculty, includes emeriti with FTE. 

*Note that the list is not moderated when members use their email addresses. Faculty using their "" emails to post to the faculty list will get a delay for moderated approval. Emeriti faculty with no current FTE. Current quarterly instructional faculty and ASEs. All A&A staff including core and research staff. All A&A front office, fiscal, academic lab, KWT, IT, JCATI, Shop, and WebDev staff. All permanent and temporary classified or professional staff as well as all classified non-union positions in research labs/groups. Academic student employees including RAs, TAs, predoctoral instructors, and graders. All students in the A&A degree program, including all undergrads, grads, and MAE students. All department post-docs. Email goes to all members of A&A's Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee.
