11/2/2005 - Changing of the Guard

UWAL has had to say goodbye to its Business Manager, Will de Jong. After working at UWAL for over a decade, Will has recently accepted a job at AeroTEC. We will miss him and wish him good luck for the future. Jack Ross has taken on the Business Manager duties for UWAL. Please check out the updated Contacts page for more info.

9/15/2005 - Back in Business

UWAL is back in operating condition! Our hardware upgrade is complete and we now have improved low end q control and also the ability to bring down the wind faster by operating the fans in reverse. We have added a touch screen to our TCAM setup that controls the new fan drives. In the near future we plan to implement an automated q control system.

7/27/2005 - UWAL Upgrade Update

Construction continues to move smoothly and we are on schedule to start up the fans in a week. This gives us an opportunity to check out the new system and verify it before our next test on August 22. Look here for more pictures.

7/11/2005 - UWAL Upgrade In Progress

UWAL is currently undergoing construction that will replace the motor generator that converts AC to DC current with a solid state system capable of improved fan motor control. This new addition is scheduled to be completed by August 22, 2005. Below are some pictures depicting the progress thus far. For even more pictures, check out this link.

5/10/2005 - Greg's Gallop

A former UWAL and A&A Department Research Engineer, Greg Lipski, was recently diagnosed with Leukemia. A fundraiser has been started by UW Medical School students to help raise money for Greg's medical expenses. An article about the fundraiser was printed in The Daily on May 9th.
