The Department prepares graduates to be successful and highly valued engineers in industry, in government organizations and in institutions of higher learning. The objectives of the undergraduate program are to graduate engineers who
- Solve critical technical problems related to aerospace engineering and devise innovative ways to develop and apply new technologies;
- Contribute knowedge to and participate in the identification and solutions of problems facing society;
- Engage in a lifetime of continuous learning and of professional contribution.
To achieve these objectives, faculty, staff and teaching assistants pursue excellence in the departments undergraduate education program, supported by state-of-the-art computing, laboratory and instructional facilities, and utilize new dvelopments in educational technology and engineering education research.
The program objectives of the department of Aeronautics and Astronautics are consistent with the mission statements of the University (http://www.washington.edu/faculty/facsenate/handbook/04-01-01.html) and of the College of Engineering (http://www.engr.washington.edu/about/mission.html) with respect to the preservation, advancement, and dissemination of knowledge that enable our graduates to serve the state, the region and the nation as first-rate engineers and leaders who are ready to make immediate positive contributions to society.
Program Outcomes:
The Program Outcomes describe the attributes, skills, and abilities that undergraduate students should have upon graduating from the Program:
A) Graduates will demonstrate a solid mastery of fundamentals in the following aerospace engineering disciplines: fluids, structures, controls, propulsion, flight mechanics, orbital mechanics and energetics;
B) Graduates will have a combination of analytical, computational, and experimental skills;
C) Graduates will learn to work and communicate effectively both as individuals and in teams;
D) Graduates will demonstrate an ability to perform and communicate the results of a multidisciplinary systems design;
E) Graduates will show that they can make decisions based on societal need and implications, contemporary issues and ethical considerations;
