After graduating I supported the Mars Gravity Project a little longer, had a 2 month internship at Andrews Space, then worked at Electroimpact in Mukilteo with David Landon. In 2004 moved to the bay area in California to work at Lockheed Martin on Special Programs thanks to Paul Forquera passing my resume around. Stayed there just under 2 years, then moved back to Washington to work on F-22 at Boeing near Boeing Field. In 10/2007 I transferred to the Propulsion Systems Division (PSD) in Commercial Aircraft in Renton. I worked on various engines within PSD including 737, 747, 767, and 777. Headed down to McDonnell in St. Louis, and stayed in their Phantom Works Prototype center for a few years. Boeing then paid 16 billion dollars to get me back, so I left again. Boeing Commercial Airplanes
I work in Flight Operations Engineering, developing procedures to allow 787s to fly with inoperative equipment. I also provide flight operations support to several Boeing customer airlines in Western Europe, helping them with airplane performance, flight crew procedures, airplane dispatch deviations, etc. In the late 80s / early 90s, I was a stability & control engineer on the 777 program, and was part of the team which developed the 777 pitch axis control law. My wife Debbie (MSAA 1990) and I have a wonderful son, daughter, and a golden retrieverish mutt.

Chief, Performance & Flying Qualities Flight B
Air Force Flight Test Center, Edwards AFB, CA
I am currently at Edwards AFB getting paid to be (notice I didn't say "working as") the chief of a "Flight" of engineers, all of whom conduct performance & flying qualities tests for the USAF on aircraft such as the Global Hawk, F-16, F-35, T-38, and assorted bombers and cargo aircraft. I came to Edwards immediately following graduation in 1985, and have loved being here ever since I arrived. Programs I have been assigned to during my career include the F-16, B-2, F-15, and the F-35; in late 2008 I was finally yanked off the flight line and now get to oversee the activities of some of the brightest engineers I have ever been privileged to know. My wife, Connie (UW BS in Nursing, '85) and I have 4 kids; as of Oct 09, our 3 boys are in college and our daughter is finishing middle school. Life is great; I even get to come to work at Edwards' "Husky Corner", where I am surrounded by UW alums Fred Webster and Frank Brown.

Homepage
BS, 1984
Following graduation, Alek spent 4 years as an Air Force Officer doing weapons research ("it blowed up real good"), the next 6 years a Network/Systems Manager for two Boulder, Colorado software start-ups where he built the computing infrastructures from scratch. He then moved over to the Fortune 100 world where he has been a "Chief Technologist" for the last decade providing IT support for (literally) rocket scientists. Along the way, he picked up a MBA (heaven forbid!) from CU-Boulder. He enjoys living in Boulder, Colorado with his lovely wife Wendy and two sons Dirk & Kyle ... plus bazillions of Christmas lights which provided his 15 minutes of world-wide fame. Way more than you want to know can be found at my homepage.

Currently designing an indoor sundial. (Living in laid back So. Calif., I wouldn't want to have to get up and go out to the back yard to catch the time, would I?) Pursuant to that, I rejuvenated long-dormant skills in geometry, matrix algebra, and spreadsheets.
Since retiring from aerospace engineering (mostly in control systems), I earned an MS in Civil Engrg, was elected to the local school board, and joined the board of the local library foundation. Also I'm keeping fed the websites for two not-for-profits.
