Who is eligible
Early admission is for currently enrolled UW students who have completed their first or freshman year in college at the UW. It requires that a minimum of 15 quarter credits of the prerequisite course work of the 30 required be completed at the UW.
Admission is extremely competitive for Early Admission as the number of students admitted is limited by space and resources. The students who typically are admitted as Early Admission students are academically gifted and highly motivated students. We hope to have early admission students engaged in undergraduate research and departmental activities during the sophomore year while they are completing their remaining prerequisites. Early admission students will typically start their A&A coursework at the beginning of their junior year.
Students who have completed more than 15 credits of AP (Advanced Placement) or IB (International Baccalaureate) course work that include Early Admission prerequisites are not normally eligible for Early Admission due to insufficient college level course work completed at the UW. There are exceptions, so if you feel you have unusual circumstances talk with the undergraduate advisor.
Students who exceed the typical number of credits established for freshman level status (more than 45 to 55) credits are not qualified to apply for early admission and are encouraged to complete their remaining prerequisites and apply for upper division admission the following year.
Prerequisites
To be considered for early admission, applicants must be currently enrolled at the UW and have completed all early admission prerequisite courses prior to the July 1 application deadline, with a minimum grade in each of 2.0 and a cumulative prerequisite GPA of 2.5 or higher. Typically Early Admission student grades for the prerequisite courses are much higher than the minimums published, making Early Admission very competitive. At least 15 credits of the prerequisite courses must be completed at the UW.
