Master of Science in Aeronautics & Astronautics
The Master of Science in Aeronautics & Astronautics (MSAA) is intended for students with an undergraduate degree in Aerospace Engineering or closely related field who are interested in pursuing an advanced degree, or career in industry, government or the engineering sciences.
Degree Requirements
The MSAA program has both thesis and non-thesis options. The thesis option consists of 10 courses plus 9 thesis credits, while the non-thesis option consists of 13 courses. All students will work with their advisor to create a program of study that is tailored to their interests and based on departmental requirements. The program of study must be approved by the Graduate Committee and filed with the department before finishing the first 12 credits of coursework.
Curriculum
There are four main areas of study within the MSAA degree: controls, fluids, plasma science and structures.
Below you will find a table with the suggested coursework dependent upon your area of study.

Choose 2 courses outside of your area of interest. Each of the two courses must be in a different area. Work with your advisor to determine which courses would suit your research interests.
All courses that count toward the degree must be graded.
Thesis
For students pursuing the thesis option of the MSAA, a committee of at least two members must be formed, with the chair of the committee typically the student’s faculty advisor. The committee must approve the thesis, then an electronic copy of the thesis must be submitted to the A&A Department, and two signed, unbound copies of the thesis plus a receipt for the binding fee must be submitted to the Graduate School by the last day of the quarter.
