Research on the TIP diagnostic began back in 1992 and progressed through a first generation of development, funded by the AFOSR, which culminated in 1997 with measurements of toroidal magnetic field fluctuations inside the Helicity Injected Tokamak (HIT) plasma. A summary of this experiment with TIP on HIT, along with details about the technology developed for TIP, and the results for the toroidal magnetic field profile, are given here:
