The purpose of the Workshop is to provide a forum for discussion of
approaches to fusion energy based on very low-aspect-ratio configurations
such as the Spherical Torus, and the toroidal-field-stabilized Spheromak,
FRC, Sphellamak, etc. The official language of the Joint Meeting is English.

The Final Announcement and Call for Papers for the 6th International ST Workshop, The US-Japan ST Workshop and The US-Japan Workshop on Physics of Innovative High-Beta Fusion Plasma Confinement [ 19 - 21, November 1999. in Seattle, Washington, USA ]
Updates will be posted at the following web site:

Abstracts
Spherical Tori (ST) are of growing importance for fusion research, and several new devices are beginning operation. This meeting should be particularly exciting since the first experimental results and research plans for the new generation of STs (NSTX, MAST, GLOBUS-M, PEGASUS, etc.) will be reported.
A Joint Meeting of the sixth International ST (IST) Workshop, the US-Japan ST (US-J-ST) workshop and the US-Japan Workshop on Physics of Innovative High-Beta Fusion Plasma Confinement (HBFPC) will be held for three days, Friday-noon 19 November through Sunday-noon 21 November 1999. The first five International Workshops were held at ORNL 1994, Princeton 1995, Culham 1996, St. Petersburg 1997 and the University of Tokyo 1998.
The program of these meetings will include the following topics :
- Experimental results of the present ST devices
- Plans of future ST devices
- Theoretical studies of ST plasmas
- Technological studies of ST experimental devices
- Concepts of neutron sources and power reactors based on ST
- Innovative concepts for ST
- Scientific, engineering and economic comparisons of ST with other confinement schemes.
- Innovative High-Beta Plasma Confinement
