A workshop is being organized jointly by Columbia University, General Atomics, Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory, and the University of Washington to discuss past, ongoing, and proposed research in the control of MHD stability in innovative toroidal concepts, using non-axisymmetric coils and other approaches.

Format of the workshop will include invited (30 to 40 minutes) and contributed (10 to 20 minutes) papers. Topical areas emphasized at this workshop include both physics and design issues related to the control of MHD modes such as resistive wall modes, tilt modes, and shift modes and tearing modes in the broad spectrum of toroidal confinement devices (e.g. advanced tokamak, spherical torus, RFP, helical devices, spheromak, and FRC).

PARTIAL LIST OF INVITED SPEAKERS

S. Ortolani (Consorzio RFX, Italy)
RFX results on tearing mode rotation by external fields in Reversed Field Pinches and future developments

C. Warrick (UKAEA-Culham)
Stabilisation of neoclassical tearing modes on COMPASS-D with LHCD

Y.Q. Liu and A. Bondeson (Chalmers University, Sweden)
Active feedback stabilization of external kink modes in tokamaks

C. Gimblett (UKAEA-Culham)
Resistive wall mode and plasma rotation

B. Hooper (LLNL)
Mode control issues for spheromaks

SUBMISSION OF TITLES
